Margaret has a strong passion for cultural collaboration and community involvement and in 2010, became a member of Carnegie Hall’s Ensemble Connect: a collaborative program of Carnegie Hall and the Juilliard School in New York City. She created engaging chamber music programs for hospitals, detention centers, and other community centers across the New York. Ms. Dyer has produced interactive Family concerts for the Knight's Chamber Orchestra at BRIC in Brooklyn and created a web series called "Musical Chairs" which introduced the music of the classical crossover ensemble to family audiences. She has been a guest artist and teacher at the Guildhall School in London, UK, The Royal Conservatoire in Glasgow, Scotland, Yellow Barn Young Artists Festival, Vermont and she has given masterclasses in Mexico City, Lima, Abu Dhabi, and cities across the United States. Margaret has taught at Sing Sing Correctional Facility several times as a guest artist for Carnegie Hall’s Musical Connections program. Ms. Dyer holds degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the New England Conservatory. She can be heard on recordings by NEOS Label, Iris Records, Crier Records, and Fortune Records.
Margaret Dyer has crafted an eclectic career as a recording artist, entrepreneur, chamber musician, arts advocate, and educator. Ms. Dyer has recorded in the worlds of classical, jazz and with numerous cross genre projects which have been acclaimed by critics.
An artist on multiple GRAMMY™ award winning records in multiple genres, Margaret is a founding member of the GRAMMY™-nominated chamber orchestra, "A Far Cry," the Boston based conductor-less string ensemble. She has performed and recorded with groups across a broad spectrum of music including, The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, The Metropolitan Opera, ECCO, Decoda, Harry Connick Jr. Esperanza Spalding, John Legend, & Bryce Dessner.
She currently holds positions as Assistant Principal violist in the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra, violist in Wicked on Broadway, and she is a member of The Knights chamber orchestra and the New York Pops Orchestra. She has been a recent guest violist in the Metropolitan Opera, the New York Philharmonic, Orchestra of St. Lukes, and Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.
